Put 16 microphones on phantompower on it and see if she'll manage without dropping down to like 24 volts....

Here for the gear

Guys,

I'm looking for some "split" channels for my Dayner and will gladly exchange them for "in-line" ones. Anyone?
P.S. I'm in Europe.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread. I just drove 200 miles to pick up a very well taken care of Orion 24x8 console. She is a beauty.

Pics to follow soon

Congrats on a lovely console.

Enjoy it. Still have a large multicable lying here wich I bought as a spare for my Dayner.

Make sure to inspect it's powersupply. As this mixer is now probably 15/20 years old.

Thanks Guys.. He has been using the console steadily and had no issues that I could see or hear when I demoed it..

We pulled the first channel card to get at the bolts for the legs. I can not get over how clean and simple the signal path looks on those cards.

Pics will be up soon.

He took very good care of her..

Holy **** my back - that thing weighs at least 260lbs..

We cranked the faders all the way up, including the masters. Then muted the channels. Could not hear any hiss...

My thoughts on playing back material. Clear and big with a tight bottom.

Now take a drumbeat. Repeat on 20 channels. Start at -20db. Now open 1 to 20. Move slowly towards 0db on all faders. See of You can overload the master.

That's Duco all the way. Clean, transparent, straight wire minimalist philosophy.....

Try a 48 channel version. LOL The guy who helped me move mine didn't want to fool around. He was a gorilla and he just picked up one end, and I was left "holding the bag" so to speak. It took a couple of weeks for my back to sort itself out...

yes. Exactly. One of the quietest consoles you will ever hear. And the bottom end is tight. I believe due to the minimal phase shift and "straight line" design.

Enjoy!!

This peaked my interest... Is this to show if anything needs to be replaced or recapped..?

It will help you to see how much headroom the mixer has. An D&R will respond quite nasty towards an overdriven signal path. There should be however quite some headroom. If it's not there it will show up with this test. And will point you towards it's cause.

Never had a headroom problem with my Orion or any D&R for that matter. But you are correct, when they break up, it's not like a old Trident that softly saturates from -20 and up. It's obvious and nasty.

I just mentioned this, so if there are any issues with bad caps or something like that.... So parts are beond spec, you will know and are able to fix it. Instead of wondering why your mixes don't work.

For a little shameless plug from a D&R afficionado to others:
I have a D&R Stylyx 16/4/2 fully modded with Lundahl transformers on mic & line inputs and master & bus outputs on sale in classifieds. Sweet desk.
If mods think this is inappropriate, feel free to just remove this message. I take it as a "no" and promise to stand corrected. =)

Ok, sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone. When I bought the console back in September, the previous owner did not want to part with the legs for the console. So I have had to build my own.

I also have Adam Brass from DSP Doctor coming down to help me get everything up and running.

So here are some pics of me building out the Legs for the Orion console. We have a CnC router as well as a laser cutter where I work. Very cool to get a chance to work on it.

Here we are using chip board on the laser cutter to get rough dimensions. I then matched it up to the console and made adjustments.

We then used 1 inch plywood (it will be painted) and made the cuts on the router. We will dowel and glue 2 pieces together to make 2 inch thick legs. The remaining wood will serve as the support brace to go between the legs..

Here is the console sitting on it's legs. Legs for the console will be painted at some point.

Adam Brass of DSP Doctor did a tremendous job of helping me get everything setup. Sonically, we were both very happy with the sound of the console as well.

I can't understand why the previous owner wouldn't send the legs. That's insanity. What was the reasoning? Weird....

I actually picked the console up at his place... He told me before I came down that he wanted to keep the legs. Maybe wanted to hold onto a piece of the console. He honestly didn't want to sell it but had to for monetary reasons.

Do you still own this beauty? The thread is few years old. The thing is, I just spotted 4x Stylix inline modules on German Ebay. I’m not 100% sure but it looks like it are inline modules for the Stylix. If it’s true then this is probably the only chance to get spare modules.

Thanks for the tip Yoski on the Stylex modules. I had 5 open slots and these 4 and a line in module they had are on the way from Germany.

It is being expanded with new 'old stock' Stylix Studio led bars for the 8 stereo channels on the right side of the console.
It is being totally refurbished. It is currently at the tech specialist in the Netherlands. I started with refurbishing the Side-Panels. I removed the stock paint and gave them a nice "Wrapped" finish with HQ 3M wood sticker. I also gave the arm-rest a new tight leather finish. Here are some pics. The Picture of the desk is showing the desk at arrival before refurbishment and modifications. More soon...
Im actually thinking about buying a Stylyx. How do you like the console? How is the noise on this one? What exactly is the difference in the inline Version?

There's a 24 channel one on eBay right now without a power supply for $800. It's in Greece.
