Aluminum Records Studio Monitors

Aluminum Records

I was watching this show, and the guy was playing 12" records made of aluminum. I'd never heard of that before. They were done for recording broadcasts and radio studio music jams? Was hoping someone could school me on this, as I have done a lot of reading on recording mediums and never found this. What needle would play it? Speed, etc.?
Thank you all for your time.

Lives for gear

I know they used to produce what they called "mothers" out of aluminum for duplication. They would cut a lacquer print, then make an aluminum cast for pressing the vinyl copies for retail.

An acetate is an aluminum disc with a lacquer coating. I have a bunch of acetate 78s of big band stuff that was recorded live for the radio in the '30s. They're really heavy!
