Headphone | Monitors Problem

Hi ,

I've come accross a problem that is confusing the hell out of me !
Tbh I'm quite a noob when it comes to technical hardware problems and I just seem to be baffled..

I do know a bit of what might solve the problem but not all

Anyway...

I have an audiophile 2496 soundcard with my monitors plugged into them and i wanted to get a set of studio headphones to work with.
But I dont know exactly what i'll need so i can keep my monitors plugged in and also the headphones so I can switch between without having to unplug/plug them both when switching from one to the other..
I guess i need some kind of mixer but i dont wanna go overkill on the spends has i am on a budget and just need it for the above situation.
Tbh aswell i dont really know what would plug in where.

Heres the soundcard

At the moment my monitors are plugged into the rca input & outs (crossed over?)
they both work anyway..
What would you recommend me getting on a budget of £65($100)

Your soundcard does not support headphones, according to the pictures, as there is no headphones socket.

You will therefore need a switcher and an outboard headphone amplifier.

Sorry, I don't know of anything at the price you state.

The soundcard doesn't support unpowered headphones no ..

Would this mixer get the job done without having to buy any additional equipment ?

Or would I still have to buy an headphone amp ?

If you were powering your monitors from a stereo amp or receiver, you would likely get a headphone output from that.

That little mixer looks like it has separate controls and outputs for main and headphone so it should do the job.

Yea I was thinking that too but with me being DIY dyslexic I'm bound to stuff it up with the wiring.

The monitors have their own built-in amps BTW

So the wires from the soundcards rca would plug into the rca on the mixer ?
and the monitors would plug into the channel ports at the top of the mixer ?

& I can see where the headphones go

I'd bring the sound card outputs into the channel 2/3 stereo input on the mixer and connect the monitors to the mixer main out pair. This leaves you a free stereo pair you could use for a CD player or ipod or computer sound. Inputs to your sound card wouldn't need to change since the mixer is just for monitoring.
