surge protectors and active monitors?

ive heard that running your active monitors on a surge protector strip is a bad idea

(can muffle them? cut transient response?)

anyone hear of this?

big monitors does not make you an electrician.

Surge protectors stop spikes. So, naturally, sound engineers all think they're like a mains version of a peak limiter. And will tell you they have the same effect.

There is no audio in mains. It just powers the amp. If anything, regulating the current to the amp, so that it produces the same all the time, is good for your sound, not bad.

just playing devils advocate here

he says his speakers are rated at 15 amps (they are 4' tall, and the kind that are like very large ribbons in reverse (i forget the name))

couldn't we theorize that at that amperage the surge suppression is actually suppressing the draw of current for transient response?
