Hi, here you are a tune mixed with Neve 5088 console plus neve 1081, 1073,5033 eq and api 550a modules (all of them vintage but the 5033). Printed to tape from console (revox b77 15 ips). Mastered through mytek 192 converters to gyraf g10 varimu comp and g14 passive tube eq.

For me the sound I´m getting is still very difficult to get ITB. Hope you like it...

But isn't this really just about preferences? The analog gear is what you choose to work with and it works for you and your clients. It's the sound you prefer.

I just finished this mix two weeks ago and it's a hybrid mix. https://files.me.com/tonysound/enfway

Mixed ITB, then summed out to a Tonelux through my A Designs Hammer and Nail. Then back into my Crane Song HEDD.

Or this song through the same process only dropped to 1/2" for mastering.

It's the sound I prefer. It's the way I like to hear my music. Half Plugins. Half Analog.

wow... your mix sounds really really crisp and clean. The song arrangement as well is great! Bass is so smooth and define. Vocals are just lush! What mic? What pre's?
My kinda mixing style..
Good job man!

I have VCC and I've been using it a lot since I bought it, and I was in love...

Until I came back to master a record I mixed using a custom made passive summing box + some outboard (DBX 160, Meek VC6, Ashly SC 50, TNC 1073, Aphex 104) + Sytek MPX4 Burrbrowns on the master out then back into my Audiofires.

Now, I need to work a little more to make a mix done with VCC to sound the way I want (compared to the hybrid one) then I'll see if I can let go the recall charts, pictures and notes

Thanks! I didn't record it, I only mixed it.
John Stoddart is a long term client of mine, so I know he recorded the vocals himself using the Pacifica mic pre and the Pearlman mic. I believe it was the TM2.

My guess is

A: Nebula or some bad convolution : Strange dynamics.
B. VCC : Good bass , but high is a bit muddy compare to C
C. Original : Typical digital sound.

I like B, but if this is before mastering, I'll take C and bring it to the good mastering facility.

What is the answer?

Tony there is a reason why I love the songs you mix and I am sure:
Its the man behind the console and not the gear... I can hear that its your passion.

+1 for using Waves SSL or API on every channel. Picked up this pointer here and count me in as one of those who hears a difference. Now it might very well be a placebo effect, but it just seems to bring that sweet analog distortion to your mix. I dunno, may I'm nuts!

Hi guys,

Interesting thread, I think about this stuff a lot and i've tried most if not all the ITB options,

Personally I think i've tried pretty hard to get the plugin emulation thing happening, but as soon as I added some outboard and started mixing through that, I got the sound I was chasing without any effort at all..

Solved my problem

I am keen to know though, being a massive gear slut,

Does anyone know anything about the rumors relating to this universal audio emu?

Sounds interesting.

LOL!!

Funny you should post that, I just bought two of those baby's to have racked up,
I got sick of chasing "that sound" through the emulations,
I wasn't having any luck,
Plus using the strips feels more like a performance to me, musical instrument.

Technically, even this can be sampled and emulated very well by Nebula
