The U5 is easy to find and sounds great. The new ones are good too.

Search for the 421 on this forum. It is said to be very nice for microphoning a guitar cab.

No offense fey, but I hate when ppl say do a search. I did, many. Besides my thread isn't what mic is good for mic'ing a cab. I know that. I want to know which of the 421's are better or worse. I posted them above, verifying them from past threads, ebay and other forums ,but I guess no one else know. So I don't feel too stupid.

Cary, e-mail Peter, the fellow in Germany I told you about and he could explain all the differences. That guy is full of info. Unless someone here pipes up and gives you the low down. I have only heard new vs. my old 421N's and I prefer the 421N over the new ones.

sorry man.
I have similar frustrations. Problem with mics is that you can't return them. I didn't read your question closely enough.
Maybe you should ask a more specific question as to what you specifically need the mic for.

He just wants to know if one model is better than another. He asked a very specific question which is what are the differences between the mics. And also I've never had a problem with Guitar Center taking a mic back, I've returned 3 in the last year.

What I was saying was him clarifying if one type of mic is better or worse for what specific purpose. (Vocals, acoustic instruments, dark sound, etc.)
I'll just shut up now.
Thanks for the tip about guitar center. I'll keep that in mind. I thought my local store in the past told me otherwise. I try to avoid guitar center, but I won't next time on a mic purchase.
