Jon Hopkins - Insides (2009): WHAT AN ALBUM!

This album is absolutely genius.

I got it about 6 months ago and was totally OBSESSED with the first 2 tracks but have only just got time to really listen to the whole album and it is truly brilliant and so varied.

I listened to it on the big ATC's up at Musikbox with all the lights off recently and I haven't been that emotionally effected by music in quite some time.

I just browsed this on iTunes. Is the genre ambient with a twist? It does sound rich.

Here for the gear

Yeah, he is very talented. I found about him on the Coldplay tour. He had samples of his album used in a couple of Coldplay songs, I think.

I'm sure that sample will keep him fed and housed for the rest of his life. Lucky man.

yes this album is incredible, I bought it on release and i have never bored of it.

If like it you should check out one of his other, Opalescent.

It really is music that you "bathe" in, if that makes any sense, it seems to have a hold of all your senses at once,

Oh yep, one of my all time favorites. The older albums are also very nice.

I like it is simple and complex at the same time.

I like the textures, it's nice detailed sound.

It has quite big requirements on speakers though, if you don't have big ones (or sub), you won't hear the sub layer which is another layer. I've listened to the album on S3A first thinking it sounds a bit thin at times. But then with 15" geithains I found out how nicely he works with different (sub)bass regions, it was very different expirience then

Yeah I totally agree. Listening on anything other than a decent system unfortunately robs most of the impact. He is very creative with sub bass.

Anybody know of a similar artist - not just stylistically?
