DDS3 would like DDS4 but too $$$$$ at the moment,

I am sure DDS4 will be needed for 96k sessions in my future...

AIT3 (via mezzo with my AIT hot swapable drive, one of the COOLEST peices of gear I own) is a life saver... Unfortunately, I force my poor assistant (who I tip well) to do CD'r back ups so pretty much anyone can restore the project.

For multitrack it's Exabyte for now, mixes go to CD24 on the Masterlink. Euphonix came out with the TranferStation which can back up to LTO tape (I think it's 200 gig), so I guess that's where I'm going.

A pair of Firewire removable HDs.. Media costs are about the same/GB as AIT, but with the added advantage of being able to hotswap the drive in and be up and running in about 30 secs!!

They rule.. They also look REALLY cool with the lights down low...

They look better with a black outer case though.

My only kwams about going the firewire route is that I have a 9600 (as do many) and don't have a firewire card. I AM getting sick as hell of having to import 10+ cd's to restore a session, so when I get this new G4, I'll probably go that route.

Time for a new shiny G4!

For me my 4 slot system is cool, I have pretty much the same capacity as a 9600.

4x AGP card with dual head (equivalent to 2 PCI slots)

4 x Open PCI Slots

= 6 PCI Slots of a 9600

Also You have firewire which is great for HD expansion, and on the new machines 100MB/Sec ATA100 is very nice. The days of needing SCSI for professional work are rapidly being numbered..

I bought a Firewire card for my Exp chassis (old) attached to my G3 Beige.

It was less than $100

I couldn't belive it!

So cheap!

Are you out of slots e-cue?

lol, I'm on a 9600 with a 13-slot expansion chasis. (the expansion is a Mix Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus Plus) but I do have 1 slot left in the 9600. Guess I'm just being lazy (and part "Do wanna change anything because it's working fine")

Does that actually work?!

I thought the limit was 7 Mix Cores/ Mix Farms.. You running some vintage stuff along side or ignoring the Digi limitation (Which I suspect is overly cautious and based on cable length rather than addressing).

It's going to be a while before I have anything like that amount of DSP. Mind you what the hell do you do with that?! Do you ever get close to maxing it on a POP mix?!

Oh my!

I had to get a node cable specially made (expennnnsive). It's not recomended, but I figure, WHY THE HELL IS THERE A PROTOOLS LOGO ON MY 13-SLOT EXPANSION CHASIS IF I CAN'T FILL IT WITH CARDS?!

Yeah, 3 of the cards are Vintage.... (I dig the spatializer plug)... Let's just say I usually run out of NODES before I run out of DSP. It was not without labor, but when I tried this with a G4 when they first came out, I had all kinds of probs. My name is E-cue, and I'm a gearslut.

Multitrack goes to Exabyte, finished 2-track stuff is stored at 24 AND 16 bit CD-R (so that it can be monitored with regular cd-players).
