Recording Brass at Ken Lewis

We recorded at Ken Lewis's studio last week, thought you would enjoy some pics:

Tony Gorruso was getting some free advice:

Ken leaving the room before permanent damage to ear drums:

Whats a Tuba for (A: Its like a 2X8 but smaller)

I wrote about the whole experience in our blog:

Bringing the Brass Bling to producer Ken Lewis

I put pictures on Flickr and you can see the Mic setup and equipment here:

A Session with Producer Ken Lewis - a set on Flickr

All in all was a lot of fun. Hope to do it again soon.

I know that room well, having painted every square inch of it before tracking drums for a few different albums there (including a couple of sessions for very big-name artists). Yeah, it's small, but it sounds great. It doesn't hurt having the engineering skills of one of the world's best, along with a very drool-worthy roomful of gear (that SSL console is sweeeet!). But I'm pretty sure Ken would still be making Platinum records with a Behringer console and K-Mart mics!

And a big congrats to Ken on winning a "Best Rap Album" Grammy for the Eminem record last week! thumbsup

Nice work on the horns by everyone involved. This video sounds much better vs. earlier, badly encoded versions.

But damn, I wish that they would just let Rihanna stay in front of the camera in that outfit for the whole video.

I will say this, those flashing lights were really hard to sit through. It's a good thing that I don't have epilepsy.

Nice work on the horns by everyone involved... That would be Tony and I...

I found this today going through the pics and posted it to youtube:

Make it loud and you will hear the track as we are recording.
