Any more opinions on the A8X?

Do you think the A8X have any disadvantages compared to the A7X?

Not sure if I should buy the A7X or the A8X. Lowend is always welcome (electronic music here), but if the A7X had better mids or imaging or whatever i'd rather go with them and maybe a sub.

thanks in advance!!!

I doubt the A7X has better anything its the cheaper model below. The A8X is going to be better, bigger and more expensive.

Disadvantages? - Louder, bigger, more power to run? The first two could be seem as advantages. If I had the extra cash Id get the A8X's (and the situation to use them properly)

On the same boat here.

Yesterday I fired up Angel by Massive Attack on the yammy hs 80's, and man, I can not loose the low end of a 8" driver, but the midrange of the a7x is tempting.

Check this out: e-muzyk | sprz

It's in polish, basicly the guy recorded the new adam models with a Edirol R09, 1 meter away, at tweeter height.

Well, as expected, the lows sounds smoother on the A8x. But i think i prefer the mid on the A7x. But i also need to add that i don't really knmow anything about this so take it for what it is.

Thanks for that link. It's helpful. ...Although it feel weird to listen to recordings of speakers in my speakers. heh

dannys1, did you manage to do the sine sweep on your speakers?

I re-checked, especially to double check the right side speaker. Complete silence!

I guess I will be mixing a week or two in mono heh
I do love it, specially for drum panning

Mustache, dont trust that audio demo. You have no clue as to the real conditions behind it. Whilst it is nice, you might very well be fooled by say, low end air compression dominance into the mic's diaphragm, and what about if over-emphasized by standing waves...? Na, forget that. They are basically the same speakers, same materials, same basic design, exact same tweeter...

I suspect the A8x to be nicer on the lows, even though on paper the difference is 42 to 38hz, but since the cabinet is much bigger, I suspect the internal guts (ports) are less tweaked, because a 4hz difference does not justify the cabinet size difference.

Just went to check, they also pack much more power (an extra 50W for the 7x's) on the bass driver. I cannot be certain, but these factors (size and wattage) put together suggest to me a much true-to-the-boom speaker. Great to get that, say, fat moog pumping

I am in no way a specialist in these matters of construction, but more power, bigger size driver, bigger size cabinet, exact same tweeter, while everything else is the same? Plus the tweak controls are really well thought out, beats anything else I've seen, even on speakers 3 times the money

I think the question here is if the price justifies the purchase, vs, say A7x + Sub. What are your takes on this?

in my experience more expensive is not always better ... and A7X + a good sub is even more expensive than A8X w/o. So i'm a little bit confused ... i can't wait to get new monitors, but there's no way to test them both here ...

i guess i should just order them both and send one pair back but i'd like to avoid that...

i'll listen to the demos today, thanks for this link thumbsup

Well that's putting a positive spin on having issues with a brand new speaker crapping out... I guess they haven't improved their manufacturing on the AX series then (?)...

i wouldn't say that.

The speaker rocks. Just certain fixed frequencies resonate. Even at loud volumes with normal music nothing is heard. This is a very different symptom than regular manufacturing flaws. Due to my hurry in getting them, I opted to pay on delivery, which made them not be delivered by specialized courier. They came through normal national mail service, not UPS as usual.

Think its a bit early and hasty to jump on Adam, since they clearly made the AX line based on customer feedback. Now, if others also come in with the same gripe... Anyone else have this issue?

FWIW, I've had faulty BM15a's delivered too.

Let's hope so, as I have a pair of A7X on order so I certainly hope there aren't any production issues with the new models.

the shelving filters on both of my a7x are not accurate. they are not on -6db when i turn them down and when i turn them 10 positons up the filter is not in the middle (-0db) how it should be. what do you guys think? is the speaker flat if i set the knob 10 positions away from -6db? im confused a bit.

the serial numbers are p-94848 and p-94855 so this problem must also be on others speakers.

What do you mean, they dont work, or the attenuation is not of -6db?

If the latter, how did you measure this?

The speakers are ''never'' flat, those knobs are for slight room correction and personal ear taste.
When you are confident your mixes translate well, you have your ''flat'' speakers.

For instance, in my case, I dropped the tweeter level -3db, everything else at 0

I think he's saying the arrows (pots) don't line up to the indicated positions on the external cabinet.

I'm still anxious to hear some feedback on the Ax8's.

I'm using a friend's A7's paired with my NS-10's while I spend the next couple of weeks mixing a record.

I do most of my mixing on the NS-10's and most of my joyful listening on the adams. They sound damn good and I'm so used to mixing on NS-10's that when I go to the adams things just sound good off the bat. I may be exaggerating just a bit but not by much.

I'm just not sure if I should go with the Ax7's or Ax8's. I'm in a pretty big room (32'x15') so I think the 8's would fill my room out more but I hear people saying something about the midrange on the 7's and damnit if I don't love both sexy lows AND sexy mids.....choices choices choices

So things brings me back to wondering if there is any feedback or comparisons between the 7's and 8's

Maybe because of a loose connection (intern cable) ?

Try finding the loose cable first. Its a 30 second fix rather than 2 weeks of downtime while you send them back.

Just take the screws off the back and pop the amp out and check the connecting cables, its a lot easier than packaging them up to send them back to Thomann for someone else to do it for you.

... You guys have noticed that the new 7x's go up +14db right ? The 7's went up to 0dB...

TheDream, did it blow, or did you turn them on to find no sound?

I really hope you didnt blow your woofer because you blasted the thing with the knobs turned all to the right. I've certainly seen stranger things...

Danny, woulnd't that void the warranty? If even if no unlock sticker is present, wouldn't ''scratched-from-use'' validate a void ?

No, Adam told me to do it.

You're allowed to service your own speakers! Its only a handfull of screws and a couple of connectors, not rocket science!

Soldering the resisters yourself might invalidate the warranty.

You'd have cried seeing me lift the glass out of my 27" iMac to replace the optical drive and hard drive with two SSDs!

Hi Big Bang and thanks any help is appreciated thumbsup but no i definitely did not use the monitors at such a high volume. I checked the connections: all cables are plugged in. I will send them to thomann this or next week

I noticed there are 2 knobs on the backside of the panel. They are protected with a little cap so that you cant touch them. I pulled the caps off and changed the positions of the knobs now my monitors sound different than before what could that be? I think you can change the volume intensity with these filters. Never seen that on the Adams A7

there are 3 filters on the a7x: high shelf, low shelf and tweeter level

but there are also 2 hidden filters without any description!

i think one hidden knob is for the woofer gain

edit:
it seem that all "ax" series use the same back-panel"

these knobs are maybe for matching the gain level of the different amps and woofers between a5x-a8x, so dont touch it!

Has anyone noticed a mid / high mid bump, perhaps not on the graph, but in the speed of it and how it seems to be projected in Adams compared to other models? One could think that is 'accuracy' but it's universally found on those when I've compared them to others. It's not major but noticable. I'd compared them at a GC and also AES.
