ok, D-Box it's going to be! heh

Just reading through this tread and wanted to know how you like your D-Box and analog summing? You can use a master fader just to control the level of your studio monitors that wont affect the record level being sent to your print track. That's how I have my PT HD system setup with my 2Bus and D-Box.

By the way, analog summing has changed the way I mix forever...to me this has made mixing in the box fun, no turning back now.

Just read through this thread and also Dangerous Dbox or 2BUS LT, pretty informative and for the most part, pretty promising. It's been said that in order to get the most out of this unit, to fulfill my signal's final path, it all depends the components in between. I just want to clarify something..

I'm investing in an UA Apollo and currently own a RME FF800, would these digital emulations be just as good a middle components as their analog counterparts to warrant having an LT or DBox? ALSO ... People talk about the Dbox in particular having good DA, what is DA? Not D/A digital to analog converters is it?? Is the DBox's DA and monitoring better than the RME FF800 and the UA Apollo??


Pretty pumped to get one to be honest.. So hoping it'd be worth it. It'll mainly be used in conjunction with the UA Apollo + UA Plugins completely ITB sent to the Dbox/2BUS LT and will just record the main outs. I have a Neutrikk patch bay for routing to just a few guitar pedals and a few hardware synth inputs and lastly a domestic tape player/recorder to bash around.

Any thoughts and opinions???

The D/A of the Dbox is exactly that - a Digital to Analog converter.

It has this because it is also a high quality monitor controller in addition to the summing features. From what people have said about the D/A converter, it is very high quality, professional grade, and sounds great. Regardless of whether you use the summing features, the idea is that you would go digital out from your interface to the D/A of the Dbox, and be able to hear and monitor your mixes in very high quality. It has a second digital input as well, typically used for a CD player with digital outs, allowing you to hear reference CD's along with your own mixes through the same high quality converters and be able to switch between them.

As for the second part of your post, I didn't really understand what you're asking.

I just recently bought an Apollo Quad, Dangerous D-box to replace my RME FF400. The apollo is a great piece of gear, and the D-Box just does something wonderful to my mixes. The D-Box D/A is very, very good. However, if you do not have a well treated room and good monitoring system you may want to upgrade these areas first.

I more recently added a Burl B2 Bomber ADC for the final step of my outboard front-end. This does impart some desired (by me) color. The result of all three units gives my mixes more depth, clarity, and provides an overall polished final product.

I have the Dbox and the 2 buss lt. I just bought the 2 buss lt and did a mix with 24 channels of summing and it rocks.

I redid a mix a I was working on and everything had it's own space in the mix compared to just the dbox summing. The stereo image expanded and everything jumped out of the speakers.

I've only done one tune with 24 channels of summing so I'm still in the honeymoon phase, but at this point the Dbox-2 buss combo is a winner.

I was basically asking if the combination of those two units would benefit from eachother.

After more research, I'm positive this is the goer for me. By complete chance I came across this video D-Box and UA Apollo Setup - Dangerous Music - YouTube of connecting a Dbox and Apollo, seems like a match made in heaven :D It's just a case of where to get one in New Zealand. I'm happy with my room treatment and Adam p22a these seems like a next great step to creating a professional, portable studio.

****, don't tempt me. One at a time hahaha. The Apollo and Dbox is a pretty big purchase :p
