official timeline / history of all API 2520 variants

there seems to be very little info on the variations over the years. clearly, a lot of folks value the early melville & huntington versions. it would be good to gather all of the info in one place, dating back to the early melcor op amps, thru today's current API 2520. (I think we should refrain straying into all of the other builds - ie. john hardy, avedis, purple, etc. & stay on topic).

- any links, pics, etc would be great
- has anyone ever dissected them?
- has anyone ever done an objective shootout & saved the data?

your opinions are totally welcome. it is a forum, afterall; however, bear in mind, the point here is to collect data.

Dating 2520 Op Amps ?

Found this thread when I was searching for info regarding dating 2520 Op Amps. Does anybody have any info about when API switched from the Huntington and Melville NY opamps from the 70's. I am especially interested in which Op amps they were using in the 80's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best,

I was interested in 2520 timeline too.

I found this on the prodigy pro site; this post was by Bo Hansen; hope he doesn't mind me quoting him.

Here is what I think can be the different issue/edition for the API 2520 amps around the years, but maybe I have miss something.

Automated Processes Inc, Studio System Division.
(black/silver metal foil label)
the first issue around 1970 ??

Automated Processes Inc, Melville NY.
(black/silver metal foil label)
around 1972 to 1975.

Automated Processes Inc, Huntington.
(black/silver metal foil label)
from 1976 and up.

API/Datatronix, Reston VA.
(black/white paper label)
around 1980 to 1985.

API Products inc, Springfield VA. (API/Wolf Associated)
(blue/silver metal foil label, without T-terminal)
take over from 1986 and up.

Automated Processes Inc, Jessup MD. (API/ATI fusion)
(black/silver metal foil label, without T-terminal)
from 1999 and up.

2520

Just found this interesting thread. Is there any tests / opinions on variations of sound between the vintage 2520 opamps?
