30 years ago .. i was here in los angeles to visit friends and it rained the entire time .. so i moved here 3 years later and it has barely rained since .. i think i brought the drought with me .. LOL

Thanks! It feels like a lifelong process for sure. Even looking 5 or fewer years back, things have changed a lot. The way it happens so slowly keeps things perpetually interesting. I feel like I have a long way to go still yet, which I suppose I should cherish. Especially regarding the high-end DIY gear I have planned.

30 years ago I was in Detroit taping the Stevie Wonder Showtime special. We even saw a guy get stabbed outside the theater, real Detroit ambiance. We American guys just sucked it up, the Brits had a cow and wouldn't leave their hotel rooms.

Danny (dbbubba) mentioned Smokin' Joe Kubeck in the original post. Sadly he passed away in North Carolina on October 11. I got to work with him a couple of times....electric fan blowing his hair and a Fender Twin Reverb turned up to 10!

DALLAS — Local blues guitarist Smokin’ Joe Kubek has died at the age of 58.

The well-known Dallas musician was found dead in his hotel room in North Carolina on Oct. 11. while on tour.

Smokin’ Joe played alongside the likes of Freddie King when he was just a teenager. He had been performing with Louisiana Blues guitarist Bnois King for over 20 years.

Kubek and King were scheduled to play a benefit concert in Dallas later this month to raise money for Kubek’s wife’s cancer treatment, according to an article published by the Dallas Observer. He played a benefit concert at the Granada Theater on Sept. 26, the article says.

Kubek’s last North Texas performance was played at the Live Oak Theater in Fort Worth two days before he passed, according to the Observer.

Remembering Smokin' Joe Kubek, a Link to Dallas' Blues Legends

Public visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home at 606 W. Airport Freeway in Irving.

According to an obituary published the funeral home’s website, Kubek is Survived by his wife of 16 years, Phyllis; step-son, Bryan Cathey of Gastonia, North Carolina; brother, David Kubek and wife Sissy Flinn of Montgomery, Texas; sisters, Nora Kubek of Irving, and Margaret Hoffman and husband Coy of Carrollton; nieces and nephews, Amy Fore and husband Greg of Andrews, Christina Jones of Irving, David Hall and wife Andi of Biloxi, MS, and David Jones and wife Stephanie of Willow Park.
