i need help finding my first hardware / ourboard eq

hey ya'll,
ok so here is what i got so far
api 3124
pair of original neve 1272's
pair of ssl pre's no eq
hardware 1176
pair of dbx 160a's
pair of fmr rnc's

im looking to expand my outboard setup to add an eq. im considering getting a simple outboard eq like a pair of api 550a or 550b, but at the same time, ive played with ideas of just getting a pre/ eq in one, like chamelion labs, or maybe even as high end as an aurora audio gq2. i know both of those units are neve ish (which is awesome), but i dont want to limit myself to that either.

so my question is, what is the best way to go? outboard eq? or a channel strip (with a pre, an eq, and maybe even dynamcs section if im lucky!)?

ill probably want to use the eq both for both tracking and mixing.
i want to make a smart decision here, but i dont want to break the bank either...

the only other issue is that even though i mentioned the api eq above, i do not yet have a 500 series lunchbox or rack, which limits my choices of eq, or raises the price if i decide to go that route. thanks in advance, Danny

Quite a few of us without a huge budget or a lunchbox are finding the 1/2 rack Speck ASC-T does the business:

i personally am not into channel strips, that just me. i see nothing wrong with them, but if i want a EQ, or comp, then thats what i want, make sense.
the 550a is great!
get a lunchbox or rack, and build your own channel strip as you see fit: )~
i like the Speck EQs a lot as well as the JDK Audio V14 ( previously the Arsenal Audio ), both are somewhat transparent the V14 a bit more tone and the Speck i feel are a bit more surgical.
love both could not go wrong either way.
the A-Design EM-PEQ is a favorite as well as the new Electrodyne 511. i love both of the EQs!

an api 5550 or a designs hammer would be cool and not too expensive....

For surgical EQ you're probably best for right now to stay ITB. For vibey EQ outboard is absolutely the way to go and I highly recommend the A Designs Hammer. It's really hard to make anything sound bad through that puppy.
