Oh no. Whats happening to Roisin Murphy?

I am a big big fan for years.

Some Moloko songs are just perfect. A great combination of musicianship, production and character. Well, i understand, she wanted to change.

The Matthew Herbert production on Ruby Blue was great as well. Nice approach and totally different sounding. They had some awesome songs and Ramalama BangBang is a classic. (I think its a swing standard from the 20s though..)

Her next album (Overpowered) was a major letdown.
It seems she hired a bunch of plastictechnopop producers around the world and went totally D:I:S:C:O

Ok. Theres nothing wrong with that. The kids wanna dance.

But i hate the sound of her beautiful voice layered over senseless, earthreatening & overloud instrumentals. It seems, she just collected
instrumentals by danceproducers and sang over it.

I mean, Moloko was D:I:S:C:O as well, but voice and music formed a beautiful collaboration. Listen to "Forever More" or "The Time is now".
Or check "Night of the dancing flame" & "Ramalama BangBang" from Ruby Blue. That goes all well together.

And then check her new single:

Is it just that she wants to enter the american bubblegum pop market?
It really rips my heart apart hearing her voice (ab)used like that.
Its still a great voice and i dont mind processing but i cant listen to that junk. Not even when i´m drunk.

Did anybody here worked with her? And if yes, would care to elaborate on what a person she is in the studio and where her musical background is. Maybe someone has an explanation

To each his own, I think.. I like Moloko, but I like this too.

Sounds quite 80's, but also quite fresh. I feared something far worse after reading your review.

I like the track. Playful editing, glitchy beats, retro offbeat sound, catchy chorus, what's not to like?*

*I may be slightly biased

Yes exactly. The new stuff is too musically sweet. It's
like wanting cake but only getting a spoonful of icing.
I mean her new stuff is okay but it doesn't take long
to get enough. I feel she went the wrong direction.

Moloko's stuff was great. TripHop, Acid Jazz or whatever
it was called, I love it. She has such a great texture in her
voice and I miss that creativity they had. Bring back the groove.

By the way, Zero 7's new stuff wasn't good either from what
I remember. Dido's latest was 'okay' but I liked first two albums
better. I like UK music.
