I really love mine. Theyve done a good job in making it a flexible and clean signal path. I have one of the 2882s too. Been very impressed with both of them. IMHO they sound great, pretty neutral. When I got the 2882 I ABd the mix straight from the board against one taking a trip through the box. Any differences were prety subtle. The ULN2 has been refined from the 2882 so should be better still.

Im coming from more of a low-end background though (gear wise), but Ive heard a lot of people talk about them very favourable against Apogee. Ive yet to check it against a friends AD8000. Hopefully one day Ill get a chance to do some listening against the Prisms at work too.

I like the sound of the pres a lot. They seem un-coloured and have really good transient response. The 2882 pres suffer to a degree from noise at high gain with low sensitivity mics. This caused by the digital pot in the gain control. Anything loud-ish though, and theyre great, especially vocals/drums. They guys at Metric were very open about this. They basicaly couldnt get the rest of the input stage to sound as good when they changed the components around. I bought my 2882 before they were released, and was the first to 'notice' the noise. One of the reasons they built the ULN2 was to address this.

The ULN2 pres ditch the remote gain control in favour of physical stepped gain +trim, and have been further refined. Ive only had it a few weeks, but they are extremely quiet and even more detailed than the 2882. I think theyre something pretty special really. I was using a 737 and an ISA430 for a while, and I havent missed them recently when Ive just been using the ULN2. Well, apart from the EQ, but when using just as a straight pre. I was in a completely different room though with different mics... I didnt have a chance to AB unfortunately.

I used the 2882 with a pair of M149s as overheads a while back, the detail on the brushes on the snare was fantsatic. Ive also had some very good results on some choral work.

The guys at Metric are really helpfull and very knowledgable. They regularly contribute to the mailing list and have, in my experiences, unmatched tech support. Drivers on Chirstmas day, and emails on Sundays...

I think the ULN2 is a little more solid, especialy in functionality comared to the MiniMe. I think I remember reading someone who owned both prefered the ULN2s pres and a/d. Not used one my self though.

Hope this is of some interest,
Give me a shout if you want any more info, Im in london too.
all the best,
Tom
