How to scroll horizontal in pro tools?

I have been trying to figure this out for ages.

How to horizontal scroll using either my keyboard or mouse. I see people doing this in videos but they never explain how. The only one I found said to hold the shift key down and use the mouse wheel but it doesn't work.

On my logitech trackball I can hold option+shift and hit the scroll button and it will scroll left and right. It is only in the mixer window though, not the edit window. In the edit window it will increase the waveform size.

scroll

On Imac I hold the number 1 for rewind scroll and number 2 for fastforward scroll on the number pad to the far right of the keyboard.

On Mac's if you have the mouse with the weird little ball in the middle you can scroll horizontally with that. I've always thought that the little ball feels like a .... actually, it doesn't matter.

Hmmm. I just have the normal mouse that comes with my mac. Does that mean it's not possible then in the edit window?

Thanks.

BTW, in video world, the term for the horizontal movement of the screen objects is called "crawl" rather than "horizontal scroll".

tilt/scroll vs. pan/crawl.

If you look for the solutions with right words, it could be more successful.

Get a mighty mouse and use a mac.
I'm amazed it hasn't been ripped off by Microsoft yet. It's so ridiculously useful.

Aren't those Camera based terms? Both Pan and Tilt are based on a fixed point camera and therefore adjust the perspective and paralax?
Doesn't really relate to a 2d space.
Scroll seems to make more sense.

That's what I have. A Mighty Mouse. I just can't get the shift key to work to scroll sideways when I hold it down. Is there something in the system prefs I need to change or something?

I thought the trackball in the mouse worked straight out of the box? It always has for me, but only in applications not the desktop.

EDIT: Tell A lie, I forget how much I use it. It works on the desktop as well. Maybe check your system prefs, that it recognises the trackball.

I don't think you need to hit the "shift" key with the Mighty Mouse. Try just to scroll.

I wonder what's up with mine then?

There must be something in the system prefs or the prefs in pro tools I need to look at. I don't get it.

Right. The little scroll wheel works in both directions right out of the box.

Okay, I think there is defiantly a setting somewhere that's got all jacked up.

Now when I try to right click on the play/pause button to try and enable "Prime for playback" nothing happens.

This driving me nuts.

This is the correct answer. It works on both Mac and PC, and it doesn't require changing your pointing device, installing drivers, or leaving the keyboard.

Thanks!
