Aphex Punch Factory (great for the extra DI when tracking elec. guitar for later model mangeling...don't tell the guitarist))
RNC (what's there to say?)
Behringer ADA8000 (I mount mine in the back of my rack )
Antique crytal mic off ebay (great lofi vox, better than filters)
GigaStudio Solo (awsome pianos and strings, low price)
No-Name 1-15" ext. cab to use under my Ashdown bass combo... $35 off ebay
Drumagog (much better than Sound Replacer)
1980's Sigma (Martin) acoustic... $150 (awesome guitar, nothing like the modern Sigmas)
Yamaha electric with f-hole and P-90's (a nice alternative to the standard strat/paul)

cheap stuff

Quote:
jbl/urei 7110
those are very cool... love the UI, trannies, grainy sound, and detector knob.

but my favorite new cheap stuff is:

Vission speaker stands (big, heavy, metal, black, spiked feet, and can be filled with lead shot) $80/pair, 2 sets

Behringer px3000 balanced patchbay. $60 seems to be built like a tank... and i got rid of my TT rat's nest of cold solder joints and BS belden cable. Yeah i hate Behringer.. but i can't find fault with this piece. it's lightyears better than the dbx pb48... and if i blow one of these up i'll swap out a new one in 5 mins. if it survives another month i'll install 2 more of em...

Now i want an SM7...

i stumbled into a hifi shop at Shangri-la mall (here in manila) and saw em there. I wasn't looking for stands I just wandered in there. I think they're a local Philippine brand because i've never heard of them. They really are great tho... dragged one set home with me then and came back the next day for the other... the first set i bought was a lil tall for my B&Ws so i bought the shorter ones and stuck the NS-10s on the taller ones. Coincidentally, they're perfect for the job.. both speakers are within 1/4" of each other height-wise... stereo imaging tightened up considerably and the "big hole" i heard at 3k on the B&Ws has almost disappeared... shocked the hell out of me... and i haven't even found lead shot for em yet. At this point I'll probably get lazy and forget about it for awhile. I still have a lot of work to do in the control room but i'm already getting a better sonic picture than I thought possible with my setup. as you can see i'm pretty happy. my wife was even amazed at the difference in sound. it was definitely NOT subtle.

i can take a pic if you wanna see em... i dont think there's anything special about these stands other than they're pretty well made and heavy. the spiked feet probably help.

whatever you do, DONT get the ultimate support stands.. they're horrible.. the pedistals are made out of ABS plastic and the speakers just slide around on them no matter how much blu-tack you use... think of a teflon coated frying pan and you'll get the idea.

Hand percussion -- shakers, tambourine esp.

Guitar & bass strings, wire clippers, Korg DTR (rack tuner) -- keep the strings around...you never know when you'll need 'em!

CD-r's...I try to keep some blanks hidden in my CD folder or somewhere. It's saved my a$$ more than once.

Extra backup firewire drive. Come to think of it, any artist client doing more than, like, two songs should buy their own drive for backup. It's just lame that we don't educate clients to keep their data. Y'know, I've seen bands fight over tape reels & ADAT tapes. And yet the data just stays on the studio's HD until the engineer has to find it (usually with no advance warning) 6 months later or even after it's already been archived to DVD/CD. Oh, boy...out come the spindles...which version was the right one, again? No, I don't care if your new producer is working on Digital Performer...you can do your own conversion, thank you very much!
