Hmm,
for ultra-cheapness,
my Marantz 5030B tape deck from '78: 10 euro's. (less than $15).

And other than that, I got an Audio Technica ATM25 for 70 euro's; awesome mic. As well as the AKG D330BT for 60 euro's. Great sleeper vocal mic, with a near-condenser-like tone, cool retro looks and mojo.

1999 Fender Squire Fat Strat new from Guitar Center with ugly color discount ... $149.00

Wasn't even playing guitar yet at the time, just wanted A guitar for the studio. Many years on now after learning to play and several very expensive Guitars later, turns out this underdog is just really, really special and plays better than my MIM Roland Ready Strat.

Maybe my Aphex 661 Expressor with Tubessence.
Or actually rewiring my entire studio with Canare quad star cables, made a huge difference. about 200 bucks but a million hours soldering that sheeet.

best thing(s) i've gotten for under $299:
Behringer ADA8000
Classic API VP26 kit (yea, the lunchbox to use it was $400, but the kit was only $200 so it still works i guess)
Audix D6
Sennheiser e609
Tascam DR-07 (this thing is great!)

Hell yes.

I'd rather live under a highway overpass and have my own washer/dryer than to go back to living in an apartment, and walking 2 blocks to laundromat only to sit and wait for hours to make sure my clothes didn't get stolen (actually had nearly everything I own stolen once... 4 loads)

As for gear in that pricerange... hmmm...

Banshee talkbox comes to mind...

Hoping to pick up a duet for just $1 over that budget this week.

Cameleon Labs TS-2 $275 - seller thought it was broken. Replaced the tube with an RCA NOS. Works falwlessly

Line 6 UX8 - $299 blowout. Used it in Afghanistan for 6 months with no issues. Pod Farm Plat. alone is worth it.

EHX Black Finger and 12AY7 mic pre for parts: - $99 The Black Finger had a faulty power supply and the 12AY7 said to have "hum" issues. Used a balanced patch cable, no hum. Bought a new power supply for $15 and the Black Finger worked fine.

Now, for the WORST gear for $299, not enough room on this forum!

For under $299? Great score! Bested only by my friend Brian who bought a Neumann U87a in great shape from a small town pawn shop for $175 because it "wasn't working". Hmm... 48V phantom power?

I got 2 Behringer C1 (or C3) whichever is multipattern for $30 each from a retailer marked wrong. You know what, for the price they were actually worth it, lol.
Aside from that, my vintage MD441 (traded a 15" PC monitor that was worth like $100)
My Aphex 106's and 109
