Just bought an AMS Neve RMX16, almost mint, built in 1995

I just got an AMS Neve RMX16. Has been built in August 1995. Amazing condition, almost mint.
The back of it says: AMS Neve. It's serial No. 5500

1. The fan on the back doesn't seem to work. Maybe the previous owner disconnected it because of the noise?
Do I need to worry the unit runs too hot over time?

2. Does anybody have a PDF manual you could e-mail me?

3. As I said, this RMX16 is from 1995 with Serial 5500. Any idea how many were built?

BTW, wonderful unit. Great character.

Best,
Marc

Yes on the fan!
Heat will ruin gear faster than anything else.
They make quiet fans, too.
Get one.
Digital stuff AND ESPECIALLY STUFF FROM THAT ERA runs hot!

1995.... that makes it a fairly late production run I'd think.
I'm no expert, but I had owned and used those for quite a few years by 1995!
I didn't even know they still made them in 1995! Cool!

I'd buy a RMX16 in a heartbeat if it worked!

It seems that they might be difficult to get repaired, but that is just something in the back of my head.
IF so, it'd be one more reason I'd have the fan back in it!

This company has many spare parts and can service them:
AMS DMX 15-80S or S-DMX delay, RMX-16 reverb, 15-80, 15-80SB, Chorus Controller, and DM2-20 REPAIR, SERVICE, AND UPGRADE

Seems they really know these units!

Of course I want mine to stay mint as long as possible, so I guess you're totally right, I have to get that fan working again. My bet is that the previous owner disconnected it. It's 220Volts as well, so I have to find a solution to fit a modern CPU fan.

Ideas?

I can't recall the details, but I seem to recall that they ran especially hot.

I had a Lexicon 200 and had several other Lexicon reverbs and DDLs around that time and I just seem to recall the AMS units being MUCH warmer to the touch.
Still, I left mine powered 24/7!

Hi there,

Just letting you know that I don't find my RMX fan annoying at all.

It is the only fan I have in my room, as computers/ console psu etc are in a soundproofed sever case built into one wall

It is essential to have that fan operating in the RMX as they are pretty tempremental
(although your late version is one of the best ones)

Cheers

Here for the gear

RMX 16 units were manufactured up until about 1996, and serial number 5500 is one of the last units manufactured.

Wonderful - thanks!

Just got my DMX15-80S fixed as well, so that I have a working pair of those lovely boxes in my rack.
