I'm kicking around building a control room, and the dimensions I would like to stick close to are around 15x15 (not square but those are my max dimensions). Everything I do is stereo, I don't have a 5.1 setup but as far as "future proofing" the design...what is your feeling would be the smallest adequate size should 5.1 be a necessity down the road?
For music mixing it's still a special thing (5.1 releases) but I seriously doubt it will go the way of Quad. Just trying to be somewhat prepared, although maybe these dimensions would not properly allow for surround mixing ever.
"The optimum speaker distance from the mix position is between 6.5 and 7.5
feet."
Cool, that link is a great place to start. Like I said...just "future proof"ing the design and not really wanting to get into surround mixing at this time! But a 12 x 14 room would probably work fine for this type of work...but I'd love some comments from those that are already mixing in 5.1.
