lol, this reminds me of the times i flew back and forth between London Heathrow and Amsterdam, i carried a AKG Solidtube in my handbaggage and they wouldn't let me through, thinking it was some explosive device..
i explained them it was a mic but they didn't believe me.
until some guy came in and recognized it as a mic..
almost made me miss my flight..
idiots
I don't think it'll be a problem... I traveled with some Earthworks TC30's as a carry on. They inspected them, but realized they were just mics (not icepicks ).
If you want to be sure they know what it is, bring the literature that came with the mic.
I flew to Nashville last month with a mic I was bringing as a gift to a fellow slut - it was a Russian made Oktava MK319, with russian lettering on it and in a metal case. They opened it up, and though the female agent's eyes got really wide, the male guy next to her smiled and let us through.
Glean your own moral to the story.
A) Russian bombs are all duds anyhow, so let it on the plane.
B) Some women don't know a mic from an exlposive device.
C) Some male airport security personnel get all warm and smiley when they see a Russian made, black metal electronic device coming through their station.
