Which mic pre for U87 and raspy/throaty male rock/pop/roots vocal

I've been considering Great River, Sebatron, Chandler Germanium. What pre would you choose, and would you be more concerned with the compressor used in the chain?

Neve 1073 DPA? DPD?

Brent Averill?

Where do the Portico & Great River fall in there for you comparatively?

Best prices for 1073 are where?

Thanks for all info/opinions. :-)

These questions are asked in threads a lot (more than most)... You can save yourself a lot of time with the search function. This is a popular subject around here. Just try 1073 or Neve clone in the search.... you'll be there for weeks. heh

OK, thanks. I will do the 1073 searches. Are there any other pres you would strongly consider for a raspy/throaty male rock/pop/roots vocal with a U87?

I think the Neve style preamps are good for vocals in general... including this type of voice. I think my all around favorite vocal preamp is the Aurora Audio GTQ. It's in the same family, but is more cost effective than an original, and has a slightly more open top end. I've used it in the past with U87's and they sound great paired with it.

For Rock Vocals?

a 1073 defiantly rocks, but I would use a SM7 instead or a M149
