PT Mix + system only question

Just upgraded my mix + rig up from OS9 PT V5.3 to OSX PT 6.4 OSX

Is it my imagination, or does PT V6 sound a little better than PT V5 ???

Was a technical tweak made to the Mix bus?

If so, what was it exactly

Thanks

(This is a Mix+ question only - not a PT HD user question)

I also believe I noticed changes in sound when jumping to OSX.

But not as much as what I hear in my new and strange discovery
- mentioned in another thread.

Hey Jules,

When I made that move I thouth I was crazy 'cause I could hear differences (OSX better than OS9). Glad to see that I'm not as crazy as I tougth. heh

I don't know if digi or apple did something but it sounds better.

Long live Mix users!

Take Care.

I run an HD2 system and a 002rack on my laptop, both on WindowsXP (Please, no platform wars). I noticed what I thought was better sound quality as well when I moved from 5.x to the 6.x arena. Perhaps it's just the refining of the code along on the way, or maybe it's all in my head

Maybe I should go back to Mix on OSX than.

When I upgraded to HD OSX from Mix OS9 I heard no difference at all. None.

But I never tried just going to OSX and staying in Mix.

Perhaps you're on to something.

Or it might be that feeling of dfegad Digidesign taking money out of your pockets that makes you start to hear things. hmmmm

not so much the operating system thing but HD system does sound better than a mix, there was a big change digi did to the mix bus going from Mix+ to HD, thats were i really here a difference.

Hey Jules,

Assuming you haven't wiped your OS9 system from the machine, maybe you could boot into 9 and pull a multitrack into PT5, no plugs, pull the faders all back to maybe -20 or so and run it. Then boot into X and do the same in PT6 and then a/b and polarity reverse the two mixes against each other and see what you get. Might be interesting. Digi claims to have left the mixers the same, but then how do you 'fix' something without admitting it was broken?

I too just switched up to OSX 6.4.1 Jules. I thought I was crazy and still think I'am. It just seems to sound bigger with more depth or something. I think I brought this up on one of your forum about a week or two ago.
Anybody ever do any A/B tests with this fined?

Thanx

Funny what improved graphics can do, it plays tricks with your mind!
It looks better therefore it must sound better.
That's what I'm telling myself anyway considering I've just finished the most important mix of my life in OS9. Doh!
But seriously, I had to make up my mind since I just bought myself a mix plus system a month ago (for $2300 Aussie dollars, woohoo!) whether to mix in 6 which I didn't have plug ins for, or 5 which came with everything I could need.
I'll be forking out the bucks for plug ins ASAP and making the switch.
BTW, I'm looking for a 24 bit ADAT bridge if anybody wants to part with one.
