The RNLA from advertisements is a 'color' unit while the RNC supposed to be 'transparent'

This unit looks awesome, and I'd love for FMR to do an RNEQ with lots of color while being flexible(hint hint). I'll be picking up at least one of these when they start coming out.

Its still pretty amazing what FMR does bang for the buck against most of its competitors. I guess it goes into engineering skills...

Great...

One question I would have is how does the release effect the sound? With an RNC trying to compress bass you have to really turn the release up in order to get rid of any buzzing noises. Will this be true with the RNLA?

Allmost makes you wonder if some of these other companies are charging way, way, way, way too much for some of the stuff they sell.

If you can buy an RNC for $200 you should be able to get something TWICE AS GOOD for $400. Not $4000. heh

I know it doesn`t work that way but still.

If your bass is buzzing, then yes. Fix your bass.

I think the McQuilkens must be running a sweatshop staffed by all the recording school interns in Austin who can't find gigs in a studio.

This can happen with lots of compressors if you set the release too short on a bass instrument. The release time gets shorter than the fundamental frequency, and it distorts.

I realize that it is a problem with compressors but it seemed to be a little more problematic with the RNC that's all.

Just ordered a pair of the RNLA's and can't wait to get my grubby mits on em.

Re: the question about having RNC's and the RNLA. I have a pair of the RNC's and they are indeed pretty transparent, especially in Supernice mode. RNLA's are supposed to be more colored. Different flavors for different things.

You probably know but [email protected] are the UK distributors so drop them a line.

Besides the coloring diffeernce, is there a difference between the 2 of them in terms of how the compressor acts? From what I read it looks like the RNLA has an option to adjust the release curve. Does it have a difference on the Attack, etc?

are you serious? the only thing different is Supernice/Log,lin.... with the different color knobs knowing which is supernice and log/lin should be easy IMO.

Also, the attack and release times are labeled differently...
SOME people may care! You or I may not...

edit: it looks like the gain reduction meter is different as well...

I spoke with Mark and he said that he wanted to make the layout different but his wife told him that they should retro fit everything so he did.

Sounds good to me. Maybe we can round them all up and have them start working for API and Neve and get those prices down also.

We can call it the "Really Nice Welfare System"

Looking at the RNC and RNLA re: FunkLogic Merc. panel....it looks like
we can use the existing 1RU panel for the RNLA instead of the RNC,
the knobs and switches all line up and make sense!

I think you are mistaking quality for quantity.
