I'll comment on Amplitube, because I'm a fan. IKM is a bit of a weird company. I've had to deal with them a couple of times and the vibe is odd.

I use it on all kinds of stuff; synths, vocals, drums, etc. and I've tried most of the ones that are available. You really have to work with the EQ section of the amps to get something that works. And don't use the parametric EQ. Not so hot. I think it's useable for guitar when you layer it with real miked amps. There are not-so-real things about it that, when used with amps, can add up to something you couldn't get with just an amp.

I'm hoping the new version will allow you to bypass stuff you don't want to use (like everything exept the cabinet and microphone, for example.)

In a predictably odd way, there's a new version out soon:

and there's nary a mention of it on the IKM website.

In my experience (I have a home PTLE rig similar to yours) your G4 will likely choke if you use many of the best Waves plug-ins that are available with the Platinum upgrade and not with Gold. They require considerable processing power (ergo the new accelerator boxes that Waves just began marketing). You have some great outboard, though, so maybe you will just use the L2, multiband comp, and linear EQs which are pretty good for plug-ins. I like the IR-1 (I have the TDM version out at the studio) but am also impressed with TL Space (especially the EMT plate emulation). The IR-1 is a total PIG for CPU power...I upgraded my Mac from a single 1.6 GHz model to a dual 2.0 GHz G5 just so I could get a couple more instances of IR-1 when I needed them.
