1272 not working. Help!!!

I can't get any signal into Pro Tools. I'm pulling my hair out over here.

Let me preface this by saying I am a complete novice when it comes to outboard gear. With that said, this shouldn't be rocket science right?

I have the 1272 (single channel) racked and the power supply connected.

1) The power supply has two inputs on the front; The left with a yellow LED, and the right with a red LED. Which one should the 24v power cable from the 1272 be connected to? (currently, I'm using the left input)

2) For simple testing purposes, I am using an sm57. I have it connected to the mic line coming out of the back of the 1272. The XLR output of the 1272 is going into the Line/DI of my mbox mini via XLR to TRS (and yes, I am well aware that mbox converters aren't great)

Am I doing anything wrong so far with this configuration so far?

3) I set both the gain and output of the 1272 to about halfway and record arm a track in Pro Tools. I get no signal whatsoever.

I did a quick check. The 1272 power supply is on. (The LEDs are lit) Phantom power is off on both the 1272 AND the mbox. Pad on the mbox is not engaged.

What gives?

I'm already going from the 1272 out to the line in on the mbox. Not working.

Some thoughs:
- try to connect a bass or guitar in the 1272's hiz. Works?
- The shure 57 as a dynamic mic needs a lot of gain, so raise the gain level high.
- Do you have another outboard gear, as a comp, to connect after the pre and check if the signal arrives?
- bad cable? try to connect the mic into the mbox and then into PT. If it works, then connect the mic into the 1272 and then line in to the mbox.

Good luck. good pre.
