So. I'm still not convinced. I think 3k is a reasonable number for me to spend on a Mac Pro.

So I ask

For audio/plugins/vst music production

2.6 ghz quad
or
2.2 ghz 8core

Grateful for all knowledgeable responses!

i own a 2.8 8-core and it's great!

it's been pretty solid so far and that's still with about 30-40 tracks with plenty of plugins as well as MIDI instruments.

i'd say go for it, especially if you're using Logic. it seems stable so far (touch wood!!!)

Well, I decided to go with the older 8 core 2.8ghz mac pro (harpertown). I will post up my verdict after a few weeks of testing. Man, what pain in my arse it's been figuring out which box to get. I hope I made the right [email protected]!
