Mr Alpha,
In theory anyway, a magnetic device is loaded down more by driving a lower impedance input. Check me if I am wrong.
There is another issue. When someone calls an input a 600 ohm input that can mean two things. One is that it is intended to for a 600 ohm mic, the other is that it presents a 600 ohm load to the source. What the manufacturer's numbers actually mean is not necessarily s clear. This is a yin/yang thing.
The point is that your 10k ohm input, if it has phantom feed resistors the load it presents to the mics will be around 13k. A ribbon would be better off driving a higher impedence input.
Thanks,
Eric

like i said, i dont know the theories behind it... nor am i even able to debate you on them, but my flamingo at a much higher load to the mic is not practical to use for ribbons whereas the lower loads on other pres is much more suitable to use practically. im simply stating what i have found.

Try the neve 1073 dpa. It has the impedance switching you need and sounds solid on most things

for whatever reason, this thread has been raised from the dead...
i now have many more ribbons and think of myself as being daft for not hearing the beauty of the great river/merc. i now quite like the MP2NV w/ ribbons.
ribbons + digital = antidote to hyped sounding condenser mics.

Wes Dooley recommended the Grace units to me before they came out with the TRP.
the R84 sounds great through the Grace.
