Mojave 200 amazing on acoustic guitar, a little sibilant on vocals but a little de-esseing helps alot. I've heard great things about the Studio projects tube mics as well.

I like my Avant CV-12. It's not a warm mic, but it's not harsh and bright like some inexpensive condensors. I like it on some vox and most stringed instruments (except guitar where I still prefer the MK-012). You can get them on ebay for pretty cheap. I got mine brand new for $350....

Without a doubt the ADK TC (tube with transformer output) for $600. For just under $1000 you can get the "AU" version of this mic with a more expensive upgraded capsule.

Here are a couple reviews:

I will second the Dave Thomas recommendation, I have 5 of his mics, all very nice.

Another for Avant CV12. Did a session yesterday and on a redgum style Ausie pub ditty and a country blues- the CV12 was better than Pearlman TM1 which the artist described as muddy. I admit the CV12 punched better on a redgum style vocal when the vocals not pushed.

The CV12 is very clear present and was better- on a driving heavy rock blues the singer sounded thin on the CV12 and I wanted to use the TM1 but he refused- had to resort to jiggery pokery with compressors and outboard eq with Hedd dsp to give the voice some girth.

CV12 great for price.

GT MD1 and MD3 (and the "a" upgrades of both mics). If you are lucky you might buy both for @$1000.

Little update from my side

* It's a mic voor vocal recording.
* The mic have to contain a normal XLR output.
* It's going to be connected by the preamps of the Prism S. Orpheus for now.
* It's for populair music.
* somethimes maybe for guitar or so, but this is not that important.

My advice is to make sure you shop around and do your homework, you could even look at modding etc.

Try a used CAD VX2 (if you can find one, they don't show very often, and they are out of production).

They come with dual interchangeable capsules.

Nice sound. Not heavy-handed. Great for vox.

Selling my TC for $316 / £210 in the classifieds. In top condition, hardly used. Sorry for the plug. GREAT MIC! Had to choose between it and my 414EB with CK12. Keeping the 414 so TC goes.

Pearlman TM-2 $950 new. To my ears it is as sweet as the TM-1 just a bit different.
