Any LA slutz want to help me demo compressors today, noon - 4pm?

I have some compressors in my studio to try today on my vocals but can't do 2 things at one time. Need engineer help????

Gotta a CL1b and La3a and own an La2a and 1176. Studios free from noon to 4pm but all my guys are gone. Anyone want to come by and engineer while I sing call me this morning? Lunch is on me.

6424 Yucca, beside the CVS which used to be a Save-on, and when I was there, and empty lot. I used to eat ABC chinese all the time.....good times.

Thanks man.

Just sang into all 4 in the control room and set them to hit the gain reduction the same and balanced the outputs. First impressions, compressors don't thrill me. Maybe because I'm not a mixer but they just don't excite me. With that being said the La3a immediately stood out as a great match for my voice. The CL1b sounded cool on the mellow section but when I poured it on a bit it got a little brittle, the La3a held it's ground better.

The La3a is an old Urei version, do the reissues sound as good?

I also like my 160xt on vocals quite a bit... It's been modded by Jim Williams. You should consider sending yours over to him if you haven't already. I'm not as much a fan of my unmodded ones on vocals.

I traded my La2a for a racked pair of La3a's today (successive serial numbers). Just passing signal through them when racking I could hear that tone. I'm really excited and the guy who traded had 8 and really wanted an La2a so it worked out for both of us. I cannot wait to start using them. He said they're sick on parallel heavy guitars. They look cool as s**t too. They are new with the build in mod on or off switch on the back. He said he usually always runs them with mod in in limit mode. You guys?

Big difference?

Because I spoke with 2 people who own both (modern & vintage) and not the guy I got them from and they both said they sound nearly the same. Either way they sounded nice just from first listen...

I definitely heard enough of a difference to pass on the reissues and buy the vintage ones.

Been using the La3a's for a few days and digging them. A little warmer and fatter then my 1176. Tracking a Celine Dion sound-a-like, sounding real nice:

You should do some sort of shoot out between November 16-22...

I'll be in town for a certain boot camp.

Lovin' this La3a! Doin' a Disney track with the female singer and it just is killing.

James, I think the cl1b and the La-2a were not really your cup of tea becuase of your style of vocals. as what I ve heard from you on the a-designs video you get pretty loud and aggresive. the la2 and the clb are more for smooth vocals. It s also why you like your dbx where I tried tracking RnB thru one and it was just horrible.
Congrats on the LA3 I will have to try one
