Avalon 747 w/L2 or DBX Quantum?

I run a small project studio for solo artists centered around a Pro Tools
LE/Neve mic pre/RME conversion rig.

Most cannot afford professional mastering so I've been using a C4/L1 combo
yielding decent results.
I'd now like to step that up a notch...

I've been debating (internally) whether to go with the Avalon 747 inserted on
the PT master bus, with limiting/SRC handled by the Wave's L2.

DBX Quantum owners seem to occasionally chime in over the extraordinary results
they've been experiencing.

So....anyone familiar with both? I've done a google search and learned there
are an impressive number of satisfied 747 users, but what do YOU think?

Thanks for taking a moment, 'OL 88'

the generic attitude that I've gathered from the boards about the 747 are that...

-the comp is usable, especially if there are no other outboard comps in your collection to choose from
-the comp takes a while to get used to and pull out it's potential of working on the program
- you may be better off not using the comp
- the side chain comp is convenient and handy
-the EQ is very desirable and sweet
-people would almost pay same money for the EQ alone
-it is definately a bargain based unit and you may have a hard time finding a combo that can touch it for the price

There are a few threads about the L2 currently. I think the Quantam sounds a lot more flexible, so if the quality is up to par, then...there ya go. I haven't used the Quantam so I can't make comments on it, other than I trust some people's opinion on here. I've used the L2 extensively, which I think is great, but only when you can have a higher threshold and your not bumping it too hard at all. I haven't used the converters on the L2 very much though.

If your interested in used ones, I've been following the prices of 747 and L2s. I saw a 747 go for around $1800 and a L2 go for $1600. I don't know if those are realistic prices, but I saw them go for that last week.
What would you record to? Masterlink?

Thanks Doug,

Sorry for not being clear: I intend on using the software L2 right after inserting the 747 on the mix bus. I've also gathered the same info about the 747....I guess I was hoping to hear from some Quantum owners, also hoping they'd worked with other hi-end gear to give me a fair assesment.

Anyone else got the skinny?
