Avalon 747 w/L2 or DBX Quantum?

I run a small project studio for solo artists centered around a Pro Tools
LE/Neve mic pre/RME conversion rig.

Most cannot afford professional mastering so I've been using a C4/L1 combo
yielding decent results.
I'd now like to step that up a notch...

I've been debating (internally) whether to go with the Avalon 747 inserted on
the PT master bus, with limiting/SRC handled by the Wave's L2.

DBX Quantum owners seem to occasionally chime in over the extraordinary results
they've been experiencing.

So....anyone familiar with both? I've done a google search and learned there
are an impressive number of satisfied 747 users, but what do YOU think?

the generic attitude that I've gathered from the boards about the 747 are that...

-the comp is usable, especially if there are no other outboard comps in your collection to choose from
-the comp takes a while to get used to and pull out it's potential of working on the program
- you may be better off not using the comp
- the side chain comp is convenient and handy
-the EQ is very desirable and sweet
-people would almost pay same money for the EQ alone
-it is definately a bargain based unit and you may have a hard time finding a combo that can touch it for the price

There are a few threads about the L2 currently. I think the Quantam sounds a lot more flexible, so if the quality is up to par, then...there ya go. I haven't used the Quantam so I can't make comments on it, other than I trust some people's opinion on here. I've used the L2 extensively, which I think is great, but only when you can have a higher threshold and your not bumping it too hard at all. I haven't used the converters on the L2 very much though.

If your interested in used ones, I've been following the prices of 747 and L2s. I saw a 747 go for around $1800 and a L2 go for $1600. I don't know if those are realistic prices, but I saw them go for that last week.
What would you record to? Masterlink?

Thanks Doug,

Sorry for not being clear: I intend on using the software L2 right after inserting the 747 on the mix bus. I've also gathered the same info about the 747....I guess I was hoping to hear from some Quantum owners, also hoping they'd worked with other hi-end gear to give me a fair assesment.

Anyone else got the skinny?
