mmmmmm...... gear.
(just like Homer Simpson.)

Jon, quick question... How much do you find yourself using the studio mains in relation to the NS10's and others during tracking and during mixing?

jon, another question: what is that piece of equipment in the lower righthand corner of your rack? It looks to be about 5-6 rack spaces high. Your signal processing racks are wonderful!

Ian,

That really varies for each engineer. Some of them actually mix entirely on the bigs, some spend most of their time on NS10s or 1031s or whatever they like with the occasional trip to the bigs, some start on the bigs and finish on the smalls. There's no rule.

For me, I'll split my time between the bigs and the NS10s while tracking the basic tracks. The bigs are the only way to go when a musician is tracking without cans in the CR. I'll be mostly on the NS10s for git and vocal overdubs. When mixing, I'll probably do something like 45% NS10s, 40% bigs, and 15% on a mono Auratone. When playing anything for A&Rs, journalists, radio, and managers, it's always the bigs.

thanks jon, appreciate the reply. I finally have a job where I have acces to some nice bigs, NS10's and some Tannoy nearfields. I'm kinda trying to find out what works for me as far as what speakers to use, and I also need to learn the NS10's. Thanks,
Ian

This thread is getting almost obscene now.

The only thing that could be worse...imagine if we put all our gear together. Gearslutz Studios would be one helluva joint!

I think I saw at LEAST 6 vent racks in mwagener's racks.

I'm sure you could find SOMETHING to replace them with.

It's expensive gear, it won't overheat, c'mon, live on the edge a little.

Yap, "G" can be the most important letter of the alphabet from time to time.

One should sentence the interior designer to 2 years strickt 2 track worn-out tape deck with an dusty Elite mic for torturing his fellows so badly. heh

Actually, that was sort of an April Fool's post! The XServes are up at work. They're some of our network servers.

...I only wish I could use them as a DAW!

You guys are making me crazy with all these pictures!
