Crowley and Tripp Studio Vocalist ROCKS!!!

Hi fellow slutz...
Last week I was doing a session for singer/song writer/wicked guitar player (someone you all have heard of) and used a studio vocalist for his guitar. Let me tell you it was amazing. His guitar tone is already dark and syrupy, the added presence of that mic really helped. I know it's called a studio vocalist, but I think it's my new favorite guitar mic and it definitely keeps up with the Royer 121.

FYI, the signal chain was the C&T into a Grace M801 into a Distressor into an API 550b to tape. I averaged about 4 to 6 dB of gain reduction with the attack around 5 and release around 6, I think. The guitar wasn't "edgy" which is why I went with a much slower attack time. On the API I added 4 DB at 800 and cut 2 dB at 240.

I agree about the Studio Vocalist being a very fine, musical microphone. It's got a roundness in the mids that you'd hope a quality ribbon would have, coupled with a very sweet top-end extension. Seriously, this mic can be substituted for a LDC in some surprising applications.

Disclaimer: I am a dealer for these mics!

Yeah, but I'm not a dealer...

Plus, just because you are a dealer doesn't mean you aren't also an engineer.

Crowley and Tripp mics are amazing...I own an El Diablo...and it's nothing short of magnificent on Bass Drum, Guitars, electric bass...etc.

It's not a vocal mic...but I can mic a whole drum kit with that and my Soundelux E49...and usually I can get a better balance with just those two mics than I can with anything else (I do a lot of on location work though)

I'll have to try the Vocalist out....I really love the ED.
