Instead of doing the 1 on top, 2 on bottom, make the top row your inputs and the bottom row your outputs (or vice-versa). I have my inputs on top and outputs on the bottom, but some studios do the reverse with outputs on top and inputs on the bottom.

Do the patchbays have any form of normalling? Many use output from one unit in top row, half normalled (i.e. connected if no patch chords are plugged in) to an input of another unit in the bottom row. Check out the website for Sound on Sound Magazine, search for patchbay in articles, lots of good info there.

yes, looks like what I would have done if I had your set up. no preamps?? I like that you patched your instruments and the panel you chose to patch them into. good job...

Hey everyone!

First off thanks tons for the help. CompEq and MsM, I was thinking about that as I currently have my patchbays with the inputs on the bottom, and outputs on the top..... I am confused though, seeing as I have way more inputs than outputs.... My groups are the only outputs on the console panel, and I'm returning my AUX's to unused channels.

And Dylansmale I do want a good preamp in the next couple months, but was going to tie that into a seperate XLR panel... Or is it best to get a cable built up from xlr to a trs connection?

Thanks guys, really appreciating all this.
