4 Channel Daking Mic Pre/Eq - 1,400.00, any users??

I'm looking to get a 4 channel preamp. I'm going to be using them mostly on overheads, vocals, sometimes guitars, and possibly bass. Whichever one I choose, it's gonna be my "best pres These are the ones I'm looking at.

4 channel Sytek - 900.00
4 Channel Daking Mic Pre/Eq - 1,400.00
4 Channel Daking IV - 2,200.00
Focusrite ISA428 - 1,700.00
Solid State Logic X Logic Alpha VHD 4 channels - 1,900

I would really like to get some opinions on the DAKING MIC PRE/EQ, I'm really interested in it because of the EQ. How do the pres compare to the IV preamps?
Is the quality of the Focusrite and Daking much higher than the Sytek's?
All of these preamps are pretty much transparent and doesn't color the sound , right? It seems to be that way with the lower end of the higher end preamps.

Thanks!!!

The Daking pre is the same in the MicPre IV and the MicPre/EQ. The MicPre/EQ however is only a single channel unit.

Both are awesome, smooth silky. Tons of gain. Not super transparent, but sounds great on anything. I haven't tried any of the other pres on your list.

I think you may have made and error here. ONE channel of the Daking Mic Pre/EQ (52270B) it likely priced at $1,400, if the Daking IV is 2200.

It's been a while since i've used Daking but I remember liking it a lot. The ISA stuff I have more experience with. It's really really clean. If you're looking for a vibe/character pre, this isn't really it. If you're looking for crap loads of clean gain, then it's great for the job.

The Daking Mic Pre/EQ is a single channel for about $1400. Not four channels.
It is a great unit, the EQ is very nice.

The Daking Mic Pre IV is the four channel winner of that list in my opinion. Daking has a slight flavor, not straight wire clean, but a very mild coloration that is pleasing for everything.

mild color is right.

the sound is very clear and forward.

the eq is like a really sweet eq from a high class stereo.

i had some QC issues with the switches for sure but they fixed it up for me. i assume the bad batch of switches is now gone and all the new units are cool.

If you require 4 channels of preamps that are :

1) Versatile &
2) Sonically VERY satisfying

You simply cant go wrong with the Daking IV.

I personally wouldnt be advocating that they live in the lower threshold of higher preamp options. These preamps routinely find themselves on my tracks as often as my Neves,GMLs,Telefunken's etc.

I've been very happy using the Mic Pre-IV for every kind of music, even classical (though that's not it's strongest application) since it came out 3 or 4 years, or whatever, ago. As said above, there have been QC issues, but the company is cool about fixing or replacing stuff, and my most recent MP-IV has been reliable for about a year so far. I have no regrets and never even think of getting any else for any style other than classical.

Great up-front sound
75dB gain
Real VU meters
Nice DI
-20 pad
line input for colorizing tracks
1 rack space
Very reasonable price, arguably the best deal around

I´m a happy user of the "SSL X Logic Alpha VHD 4 channels".

I´ve done a couple of albums recently with the SSL as the main pre. First for drums (OH + snare *VHD hell yeah* + kick) and then tracking the rest through the SSL. I do mostly metal, but I´ve also used it for more "normal" instruments as violin, vocals, flute etc... I really like it. It has a really nice presence and smooth/correct treble.

And I´ve also discovered recently that the VHD knob can do wonders for toms...

I should also add that I have no experience with the other pre´s you mentioned...
