Get the API 560... that with the rack should be around you price range, and perfect for what you are doing. It's something you won't grow out of... I can't say the same for many of the other suggestions.

hey tony we had a 560 in our rack and tried it out for a while but ended up preferring the E15's. i know you been in the hip hop game for some time and respect your opinion and know lots of people really dig the 560 (which wasn't bad) but have you checked out the E15's? also most of the stuff i am working on is my own production which starts out with good drum samples so im not doing major shaping which may be better on a graphic eq so maybe it would be better if your working with some cats that don't have the greatest drum sounds etc. just what i gathered but i could be wrong. did you engineer the "untouchable" album? it's one of my top 5 classic records.

I haven't checked out the Avedis' EQ yet. But, I know him well and he makes great stuff. One of my good friends has a rack of them and told me they were hot... I didn't put that as a choice because it's $1000 for just the module alone.

Also, I think Mike Dean did most of that album..

If you're in Canada, call Andy Cherna @ Diffusion Audio, he'll probably let you demo the Buzz MPE1.1 EQ.

Tim Farrant @ Buzz is a great designer with top flight ears IME.

Try the Toft ATC-2. You get a great Eq, and preamp, and compressor.
The EQ alone is worth it. I use this unit for eq alone on almost all of my mixes. It puts up a good match to some of the higher priced units.
