tried these tape delays??

whats up y'all?
i am in the market for a tape delay unit. these are way too much fun not to have in the studio. i have only heard the vintage roland units before. (basically the 501/555) i love the way they sound! however, i would rather buy a new modern unit than go shopping around on ebay for vintage stuff. (recently got scammed again!!)

i plan to start dubbing the sh$t out of some of my music. i will be flying line level audio out of computer or from mic pre to tape delay.

what are people's experience with the following units? does the fulltone really come close to echoplex? does hiwatt sound closer to space echo since its solid state? how much maintanence do the units seem to take? are there any other high end units i am missing?price is no option:

1) hiwatt cte
2) fulltone tte
3) guyatone tape echo

i know no unit will ever exactly recreate any vintage unit. i am just trying to get an idea of general flavor.

happy dubbing

fulltone tte

Hey, I have a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo that I love very much, but I wish to caution you that it is not dramatically "vintage" sounding. It is in fact, quite high-fidelity. I use mine in live shows (I'm a guitarist in a band) and also in the studio as outboard.

You can get a nice tape compression by driving the input, but it will not break up or warble in the way that most people think of antique tape echo. It is just very warm, clean and solid sounding. It's quite a lovely, full-bodied, full-frequency echo. You can EQ the echo to sound darker or brighter than the original signal but even this is so well-designed that you cannot get it to sound pawnshop-ish or "old." Just a warning.

The TTE is very modern but not in a cold way: it's lovely and lush. Fir studio use, I still like those Roland echoes and other beat-up tape and brucket-brigade delays. They all have their characters. My favorite for the studio (cribbed from Tchad Blake) is an old blue DOD solid-state, non-tape echo pedal, used with a Little Labs PCP.

I'll get one for sure, if that means I'll have 7 heads, mine own included.
Just one Q before ordering;
Are the heads permanently spaced out or can you move them?

I have the Fulltone. I bought it used and they
still tweaked with an update for free.
Sounds great onstage and in the studio.
Rock solid build and huge tone.
