Hardware vs. Software Samplers

Is it just me?
That thinks my old Roland S-760 sounds better
than the EXS24. Can´t say what it is, but somehow it
just sounds better. Forget about timing were I think software samplers
are way ahead(sample accurate), I´m talking about sonics.
Anyone?

I not suprised that they sound different......maybe the one you think sounds better actually sounds worse, and that's why you think it's better......use the one you want and don't sweat it!

Well your outboard sampler will definetly sound different.

It uses different DSP processes and algorithms. It also has different ADCs.

If you like the sound of your outboard more, it's probably because it's lower-fi.

i just can add , i agree with jens .

i have a " old g3 " and wont stress my old box with some software stuff . we played around with the emagic sampler a bit and i think its a cool feature to have .

if it would be either hard OR software

i would keep my akai . i have a suitcase loaded with sound cds .
some other guys have em all on their 200 GB disk .
i like the old way , but if i get a new computer i will defenately add some software stuff .

but another question :

a friend of mine is using a mac running logic & motu .
i am running a mac & protools .
everytime i get a session from him and load it on my mac
the session gets out of time ( it takes a while till you really figure it ) . even if the material are cutted loops , its works ok the first minute but the rest of the song is off . usualy i exchange sessions with people who create em with digidesign hardware and never had a problem ??? any tips ???
