Wayyyyyy..... in the back of my memory bank was recollection of something I read a LOOOOOONNNNNGGGGGGG time ago in a magazine.
Being the nice guy I am I drug out the 21 year-old copy and thumbed through the pages three time before I found the following in the "Letters" section in the back of the magazine.

In my February 1997 copy of Keyboard Magazine there is a letter on page #170 that says:

Notice to all Roland SRV-2000 digital reverb owners: There is a hidden effect- a true digital delay (and a good one) that can be activated by simply holding down three buttons simultaneously while switching on the unit.
Hold down the rev/non-linear button, the write button and the room simulate button.
At the same time push the power switch and DELAY will appear in the display.
The parameters of the delay can be altered by again pressing the reverb/non-linear and then pressing the three button on the right side (predelay, rev time and hf damp) for the type of delay desired.

The letter was attributed to:
Jimmy George
Jimmy George Productions
Los Angeles, California

Levi - did you ever find out from your friend what that combination ever was? We here would all love to know!

At least, It was demonstrated to me once on a 2000.
You'd think that someone out there would be able to give first hand knowledge about the 330 set up if it truly existed.
As a 330 owner myself, it would be interesting, but maybe it's time to file this one under "myth".

Mmm... Since Eric Persing himself mentioned it (see link in first post), I would bet it's true. Now if only he (or someone) could only remember that very elusive combination!

Still only crickets after all this time? I just picked up a couple of more SRV's and SDE's. I love these things, and they are so cheap these days. I use them as much as my Lex's and Eventide... no secret codes? Where's the crybaby icon when you need one...

So anyway, another bump for the secret code...

And if ANYONE has an SDX 330 Chorus/Expander they want to sell, let me know.

This is a known function of the SRV 2000.

The similarity is SRV...this does not work on other models.
Urban myth for SRV 330.

If in doubt, contact your local Roland service centre and ask for the oldest guy there !

I guess Roland likes secret modes. Like the Juno 60 mono mode.

I have both of them,the SRV 330 and SDE. The SRV has one more processor than the SDE 330. I suggest that power supply capacitors should be replaced and that the rectifier should have a heat sink added to it. (My 2 Cents)

Hi (and welcome!) soundguy. I'd be interested to know why you're suggesting these mods - is it because you're finding the noise performance problematic with these units, are the sonics being affected by unclean power - or have you encountered other/maintenance issues?

I can manage to enter the thing where you can reset the presets and system info by press SYSTEM + PROGRAM when turning the unit on, but I can't get into 'Further Mode' by following instructions.

When I press FUNC 1, 2 and PROGRAM while holding system after I've entered the preset/system load area, it doesn't do anything. I'm trying on both an SRV and an SDX. The SDX's firmware is V1.00 and the SRV's firmware is V1.07

Well, looking about I'm more and more convinced that it's an old wives tale, I did get the 'further' mode to work on my SRV-330, it's a little different to how it's described here: Knowledge Base | Roland U.S.
For me it was:

1) Power on while holding down PROGRAM and SYSTEM.
2) Hold SYSTEM and press the FUNCTION 1,2,and PROGRAM, something like "Preset: ALL" will be displayed.
3) Press MEMORY (it's lit up).

It loads up and then you get about double the parameters, not sure how useful they are though as they seem to things like additional EQ.

Sort of thinking about getting an SDE-330 now, I am loving the thickness of the verb on the SRV

Found a guy selling these two units for 100 bucks, worth it? What are you guys using these on most?

Or maybe just buy one and use the secret key to unlock

I vote for a sticky with secret codes that makes gear all kinds of useful (and crazy) stuff. I have some stuff to contribute, but it would get too much OT here.

It's not an old wive's tale. I know the combination. I believe it's an SRV-2000 though, not an SRV-330.

Hold down the second, fourth and sixth buttons on the left hand side of the unit so your fingers form a triangle while powering it up. The display will confirm by saying it's an SDE.

To change it back to an SRV, just turn it on and off again.
