Stems from the DAW?? How do you use your summing box...

I'm considering the benefits of analog summing and adding a box to my setup but I have a dilemma.. It seems that during mixdown as soon as I want to make a guitar or drum bus, it'll begin to get somewhat complicated if I want to sum the tracks analog since the DAW obviously sums the tracks to a stereo pair.

Isn't using busses within the DAW sort of defeating the purpose of the summing mixer?? I'm sure it's still somewhat beneficial to send stems through analog summing, but this seems a bit half assed to me and like it wouldn't make a real difference in quality..

How do you guys use your summing mixers with your DAWs? I guess you could sum the tracks to a stereo pair as a stem back into the DAW then treat that as a group, but you're screwed if you wind up wanting to change the individual levels later on. Has anyone found a good work around for this type of situation?
