they look like small pc loudspeakers = sqalling cubes heh

With a max SPL of 120 for the 850 model, I doubt their as small as pc speakers.

I´ve heard the 8040 and it sounds truly amazing compared to 1031. The design is supposed to be less reflection and distortion kind of thing - same idea as tannoy with their ellipse series - but of course the ellipse sounds and looks much better.

btw they cost more than the 10 series.

they say everybody's different, but you're like the first person i ever met who actually likes the ellipse ... never heard so much midrange packed in one speaker.

The 8040's don't have their look going for them, but check out their older series, they seem to have had a similar design in the early 80ies.

That said, i love my 1031's.

I tried them all before I got my ellipse - KRK, Dynaudio, Genelec, Yamaha, Mackie, Blue sky, Event, Fostex - ellipse was the only monitor that felt was accurate enough, mabye not the best sounding monitor (in a hifi way) but extremly phase correct and revealing. My best buy ever - every mix translate perfectly on other systems.

I think all above makes decent monitors but only the ellipse is good.

just my .02£
