Who's doing Drums by FTP ?

Hi All

I'm very tentatively enquiring about commissioning some drums.

The track is pop rock and the budget is smallish.

Do you do it ?

Have you used someone you'd suggest ?

I'm not looking for PMs at the moment, web links to demos or websites would be ideal.

That's what I do. Check out the site and let me know if you are interested further. There are also several others on GS and the internet that do this. I would imagine they will post here as well for you.

You can check out Peter's site and see if his style is what you're looking for in your project.

Check out Sean O'Rourke. He's a great drummer, and he gets great sounds.

Thanks for this.

Seems like I'm not the only one interested in this kind of service.

Also there's no need to apologise for self promotion, I asked for it !!

Anybody else want to throw their percussive hat in to the ring ?

Check out my friend Tony Morra /_\ Tony Morra's Downtown Batterie /_\

He just did a rock track for me. Superb performance, sounds and workflow (via FTP).

I've done a lot of drums by FTP three of the singles of the last avril lavigne. I've done tracks fro GS members in other countries and have an entire session band set up for this kind of work.

For drum examples see Monster Island Recording Studios - New York City (any of those drummers can be used on your sessions) or The Number One Sons - The #1 Recording Performance Team for the band.

So what's the easiest & fast FTP to setup for the FTP challenged (i.e. drag, click and send no fuss)?

Nathan I use .Mac and it's files download page to deliver mixes. You can password protect the page which is useful.

We were in Ibiza in the summer recording a show on each Tuesday, mixing it in the hotel room on the Wednesday, sit by the pool and upload with a beer in the evening. Then off to the record company for approval. Broadcast on Sunday in the UK.

And even when I'm at home I find it very useful for interacting with clients.

Apple - .Mac

If you're using a Mac, I like Fetch. Super easy to use.

hey nathan,

if you are on pc using internet explorer you can just type ftp.yadayada.yada into the address bar and it will automatically work.

that's been the easiest for me when on the pc, but for you we'll have to wait and see.

(sorry I started down that path and couldn't resist.)

if you have firefox theres a great ftp extension/addon called fireftp. opens up in a new tab and is just as powerful as any standalone app.

I wish there were a cheaper alternative to postspots.com, which is great but expensive. I use it semi regularly at a couple of my clients facilities and it is pretty effortless for uploading/organizing - and real simple for the client (web based through your own website), which is the most import feature that makes it worth the cash for many.

With that said, I personally use fetch, and create ftp users with my web hosting company, hostbaby, who make adding users easy. I can then give the users my ftp address and all they have to do is enter their username and password that I have assigned them into a program like fetch and they are automatically directed into their own folder. It is not as slick as postspots but "free."
