You said little. I built my little 'studio', and it's like apollo 13 it's so small.

What I try to tell every person who thread on new studios.

1) Buy all gear last, work on the acoustics and basics (mixer/patchbay/routing)

2) Remember to leave yourself plenty of elbow room (especially if you're going to use tape at all) because once you start buying gear, odds it will never end.

As for the window, just be sure to sit down to estimate what you're looking through, don't just figure 3 feet unless you've thought out where you're putting everything.

Materials for wall (rough guess):

1) Space about 6" thick or more if you have room
2) lumber for framing
3) drywall surfacing (heavy, get a friend...or dude in parking lot if you live in L.A.)
4) acoustic rated board if you can afford it, if not get the stuff from the hardware store
5) lots of lumber for framing
6) plywood
7) Cement screws or something to screw the frame into the ground in case of an earthquake (CA residents)
8) drywall screws, 2 lengths, 1) about 1 5/8 2) 2 1/2 inches
9) silicon for the window you're putting in
10) polycast or lexan for the window, figure at least a 2x pane of 1/2" material
11) paint to make pretty (wallpaper's a nightmare)
12) AC to stay cool
13) Fridge for bevmo

13) don't forget about your patchbay,

I got these in a luck trade with some cash for a Demeter preamp.

My set designer friend before-hand told me to go to Grosch Theater Rentals or something like that. They're on the Southside of Sunset East of Hollywood somehwere in Los Echo Lake. The name is on the front of their building in big letters.
