Ensemble vs Fireface

Please, help me! I'm Pro Tools user as well as Logic Pro user. I have DIGI 003 control surface and I would like to upgrade my setup with some good AD/DA conversion and some good preamps. I thought that Apogee Ensemble or RME FireFace 800 can be a good choice. I can use one of them as soundcard with Logic and use it for AD/DA conversion with my DIGI 003 in Pro Tools. Now it's time to make a decision and I will appreciate any advise. Thanks!

There is a thread somewhere on GS that does a blindtest between the two. I think most people picked the FF800 as their choice... I couldn't really hear the difference.

I think that test was actually between a Rosetta and a Fireface 800 but I'm not 100% on that.

I haven't used the Ensemble, yet, but will be getting the opportunity either later this month or early Oct. A guy I work with just bought one and currently he's using a Fireface 800. Our plan is to do some a/b'g between the 2 units to hear the differences for ourselves. He's concerned that the Fireface is too 'prosumer' and while the price would certainly indicate that this is the case, based on my experience with the 800, I personally think it sounds quite pro imho - and I have had the opportunity to work with RADAR and PT|HD to compare it to.

I'd be surprised if you didn't like the Fireface, if comparing it to the digi03 for e.g. and don't think it would be a lateral move.
