shockmount for c42. necessary?

Buying a pair of Josephson c42 for OH and guitars. Is it necessary to purchase their shockmounts at the price of 115$ each?

no

You can use high-pass filter to remove rumble and footfall.

Ugly solution is DIY with bicycle inner tubes and plywood. You will kick yourself for not getting the right shockmount for a good quality mike.

You will buy the shockmount later, after your monitoring is improved. The price will have gone up, and there will be no opportunity to negotiate the price down as part of the microphone purchase.

Cheers.

Peluso sells a really very nice sm for his CEMC6 mics. I think they are around $50.00. Should work fine for the C42. I think Soundpure carries them.

These are pretty decent for the price. They work with all of my SDC mics.

Yes, shockmounts for condensers are necessary in most situations. There are plenty that cost less than $100/ea. As a matter of fact, the ones that came with my C42's are the cheap On Stage Stands ones (usually cost about $15)... They aren't great, but not horrible either.

Also, I want to say that the Shure A53 donuts work well and of course the Audio Technica 8410 is great.

The most expensive of these (the AT mount) is about $50.

The mounts that came with my 42's look just like the ones on the Naiant website... cheap, cheap! No rumbles here!
