Metallica/Black album.
I've had the CD since it came out.
Last night (16 years later!!!!) I realized that there's a shaker playing on "sad but true".

Anyone else have similar episodes to share?

In Utero. Owned that album for about 10 years, but never noticed the cough on Serve the Servants until just the other day.

Same exact episode happened to me about a year a go in a train station. I was listening to my iRiver and suddenly Sad But True had an added shaker. It definitely felt like "where in the hell has my ears been the last 15 years"

When I got my place up and running, she listened to "And Your Bird Can Sing" over the mains, and flipped out when she heard the little bass guitar ripple at the end, for the very first time.
I'm still hearing new stuff on Beatles records.
The other day I heard George Martin's keyboard work on 'She Said She Said'.
Never really picked up on that before.

"MP3's SUCK!" she exclaimed.
More like the ipod headphones suck. Or that particular master sucks.
I'm sorry but if you had any idea of how the mp3 algorythm works you would not claim that it can make entire instrument lines disappear.
All it can do is introduce artifacts (much like video compression), but not make a solo instrument disappear.

In fact, if your daughter happend to find an algorythm that can eliminate an instrument from a stereo arragement, I would like to hand her the nobel prize.

Nice. Winning over youth towards quality. really nice!

When I was tuning P.A. systems, I always knew it was still not right when I was hearing new things in reference recordings. That's a different thing though.

Actually, that can be done, but it's true that mpeg algo's don't do that. There are FFT based programs that can take out particular instruments. (And I'm definitely not talking about O.O.P.S. karaoke software.)
