Stereo Enhancers: Lazy person's tool or?

Hey everyone...

Just reading a post about stereo enhancers and was thinking how i've never used one of these things. I've always found that stereo/two-mic recording of a source and panning techniques cumulatively throughout a project leads to the most lush sounding mixes. Stereo enhancers always sound a little weird to me (Waves S-1 etc), and the "take-the-left-side-and-delay-it-a-few-milliseconds" technique is too phase-y to even consider.

So do many people out there use these things?
