UAD-1e: a fancy dongle?

I am planning to purchase the UAD-1e for my Macintosh Pro, but I have been interested in the cards themselves. Some info I have received says that the cards actually do very little DSP processing, and require significant CPU cycles, and the DSP itself is seriously underpowered compared to the capability of modern multi-core CPU's. Yet, there are people out there with multiple cards. Is this just to get the vouchers for more plug-ins?

What's the real deal on this? Inquiring mimes want to know.

People can multiple cards because some of the nicer plugs eat up card CPU pretty quickly.

This link from UA gives you a broad sense of how that plays out (scroll down to find the chart):

UAD-1 Expert PAK specs

The lowdown: Great sounding plugs (some of them excellent). Underpowered chipsets.

Still well worth the money IMO.

And yeah, more cards means more vouchers.
