TEC Nominated Converters comparison - With audio!

Hi fellas. Its time to give back something since I have learned loads from this forum where I plan to keep coming.

I have a TC Electronic konnekt 8 interface. It has the same converters as its big brother with DSP, the konnekt 24D, wich has been TEC nominated because of the converters. Unfortunately I have to send it back to factory cause a knob got damaged. So I did a test to check if my onboard audio card has enough quality in its converters to do the job meanwhile my unit is repaired.

I am on PC, my board is a gigabyte P35C-DS3R. It has a realtek chip on it.

I chose audio from the Silverchair´s Neon Balroom album "Anna´s Song" that I really like both musically and in sound quality. Original CD, converted to WAV in Sound Forge and played in mono. Recorded directly from the computer passing through the Konnekt´s line out (I assumed the converters being better and wanted to use the same line out for both). Re-recorded using the konnekt again and the onboard then. Used same cable for both tests. Aligned them into sample zoom level in SONAR 6. Files recorded & exported @ 32bits floating point, so no dithering is induced. I wanted to have both low and high intensity sections just for being sure of the differences (if any) at both headrooms. Matched levels by ear @ the point of major cancellation for the phase tests.

I did a cable test to see if there were diffrences: a super cheap, a standard proel (cheap) and a monster standard 100 (mmm not so cheap). Differences were negligible with the phase flip audition. The super cheap is lower quality definately, the full spectrum was audible, so that means there is a big difference. The proel and the monster showed to be almost the same thing. I had to raise the level all the way up in my headphones to hear some high frecuencies between the proel and the monster in the recording but it could have been crosstalk, too, because volume was at max. I do not have gold mogami so dont know if that would be different.
All my cables are in between 2 to 4 meters, so distance is not an issue here.

Maybe a lot of factors influence this comparison, but I am sure it can give a lot of insights, too. I did it as close to a standard as it could have been!

For ease of comparison I suggest listening to the phase flipped versions, what you hear is the difference from the original:

1. Original sample.
2. Konnekt converted.
3. Onboard converted.
4. konnekt difference.
5. Realtek difference.

I got my conclusions, but I would like to hear yours before launching mines!!!

PD: I know there is a little click at the beginning of the source file, it happens that the CD was not very ok, but I wont repeat all that cause I noticed when the test were done!!! (and half of this thread writtern!!!)

konnekt converted is lower volume, right?

I tried to have the levels as close as possible with no normalizing or anything else. if the phase flipped version is lower that means there is less difference with the original. But here I got the converted versions level pretty close!
